Proton Lumo API Status - No Official API Yet

Proton Lumo does not currently offer an official API.
Current Status
Lumo is Proton’s zero-access encrypted AI assistant that does not track or record your conversations. It’s based on open-source language models and operates from Proton’s European datacenters, with queries never sent to third parties.
API Availability
There’s no official API from Proton. However, API access is one of the most requested features on the Proton community forums, with users wanting to integrate Lumo with tools like Home Assistant, VSCode, and other applications.
Users are actively requesting a developer-focused API that would let them call Lumo programmatically, invoke tools and custom functions, and use it for automations.
Unofficial Workaround
There’s a third-party open-source project on GitHub (carlostkd/Lumo-Api) that uses Puppeteer to interact with Lumo, allowing you to send prompts, toggle web search, and manage chats through a local Express server. This is not an official solution and requires logging in manually through the browser.
Current Access Options
- Web: lumo.proton.me
- Mobile apps: iOS and Android (open source on GitHub)
- Plans: Free (limited) or Plus (unlimited chats)
If you need programmatic AI access now with privacy in mind, you might consider self-hosting an open-source model or using another provider with an API while waiting for Proton to potentially add this feature.
Looking forward to it ;)
